When I started my first round of chemo this year, Mdm Tan prepared a list of food-therapy recipes for me to ease the side effects of my chemo treatment. During my chemo days, my favourite fruits are pineapple, coconut and watermelon. I have no idea of why I yearn so much for those fruits.

Mdm Tan shared that the fruits which I craved and what she had also recommended helps to clear heat, detoxify and promote digestion for the body. I heard that food craving is one way by which our body try to tell ourselves that we are lacking certain vitamins or minerals.

So maybe we should start eating what we crave. Hmm… like chocolate?!!! Heehee…

Mdm Tan also gave a list of recipes for soups and deserts as part of the food-therapy. The food she recommended are natural and non-medicinal. This is to avoid clashing with my chemo medicine. I have tried the soups recommended by Mdm Tan and have experienced the goodness in them. They have helped in regaining my strength much faster and better.

Chinese barley - 100g
Carrots - 250g
Codonopsis root (Dang Shen) - 15g
Chinese wolfberry (gou qi zi) - 15g
Winter melon - 300g
Astragalus root (Bei Qi) - 20g

Method:
Pour water into a pot and boil all ingredients with lean meat.

Therapeutic facts:
Chinese barley - inhibits the growth of cancer cells and boosts the immune system, reduces side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments.

Codonopsis root (Dang Shen) - reinforces the spleen, tonifies the lung, nourishes blood and promotes the production of the body fluid.

Carrots - dry dampness and phlegm in the body, improve “qi” circulation.

Chinese wolfberry (gou qi zi) - strengthens the eyes, liver and kidney and nourishes the blood.

Winter melon - detoxifies the body.

Astragalus root (Bei Qi) - builds the immune system, increases production of white blood cells, fights bacteria, reduces side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments.
